Before I started using Ubuntu I saw some distros of Linux that had unlimited desktops only hindered by the computer's storage and capabilities. I use gnome and I'd like to know if this is possible for it and what programs would allow this.

If it's workspace right click the workspace icon>preference>columns to desired amount of workspaces.

Thanks to the both of you. I should have thought to right click the switcher myself to see if I could add more desktops.

What do you mean by desktops? I'm unclear what you are asking. Do you mean Workspaces or the actual desktop environment? You can add many workspaces and can run multiple desktop environments on the same machine.

If you mean workspaces, right-click on the Workspace Switcher and select preferences.
